Juan de Flandes, The Temptation of Christ: Command That These Stones Become Bread, 1503

LENT 1

After Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights in the wilderness, he was tempted to turn stones into bread, implying that if he was the Son of God, he could use his divine power to solve his hunger. Jesus refused the temptation, stating, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" This highlights Jesus' reliance on God's word, and his refusal to use his power for personal gain or to test God.
