Master of the Legend of the Magdalene (possibly Jan Mostaert), Mary Magdalene washes Jesus' feet 1480-1537
Lent 5
The gospel reading for this weekend, from St John's gospel, clearly reads that Jesus was at the home of Lazarus, who Jesus had raised from the dead, having dinner prepared by Martha, when her and Lazarus' sister, Mary, anointed Jesus' feet with Nard, a costly ointment. This should not be confused with earlier event described in St Luke's gospel where a woman (not Mary Magdalene as some suggest) washes his feet with her tears and dries them with her hair.
Brass quintet on Sunday
Corey East-Bryans has organised a brass quintet to play for us on Sunday at 10am, accompanying a cantor for this service. Cory, a fine French hoen player, is completing his degree at the University of Melbourne's Victorian College of the Arts in Southbank, and teaches French horn at Brighton and Camberwell Grammar Schools. We look forward to hearing them play.
