James Smetham, Christ preaching to the multitudes

Pentecost 14

The drastic impact of Jesus' teaching on the crowd is that many walk away. When confronted with spiritual needs and a spiritual message, some people will turn it down. When given that opportunity, St Peter's answers that even if we are perplexed and distressed, if Jesus is the Holy One of God, who has the words of eternal life, then there is nowhere else we can go, and no one else we should seek to put our ultimate trust in, besides him.

I am back! I trust that those who have been following my blog (fatherm.com) enjoyed my holiday commentary. Angela Alomes will be back in the office on Monday after her vacation to warmer climes.

This morning Xeverie has been invited to preach at St Peter's Bundoora as part of the Diocesan Vocations Day Program where all third year priests visit other parishes and speak about their experiences in ministry.

Concert last week

On August 18th, the Australian New Goldberg Orchestra(ANGO) held the “Enchanting Melodies" concert at St Andrew’s. The concert was well attended by more then 500 people occupying seats right up to the gallery!

A captivating performance featured guest tenor Paul Biencourt, soprano Nicole Wallace, mezzo-soprano Juel Riggal, and the Alliance Australian-Chinese Choir, which recently won a bronze medal at the 13th World Choir Games. They were accompanied by conductor Andrew Groch. The concert, hosted by Olivia Ouyang, featured a blend of classic Western and Chinese masterpieces, offering you a musical feast that transcends borders and time.

A true East meet West concert.

Local musical talents from the Bayside community shared the stage with our orchestra members. Children from Brighton Grammar and local music enthusiasts also performed and interacted with the audience using their instruments.

Our own server, Jack, performed a violin piece “I love China”, a familiar chinese song that had all the attendees singing along.

Although, the sun was still setting outside, the welcoming warmth in our church could be felt by many. this event draws many from our Bayside suburb and put St Andrew’s in the front of mind of many people. Some early birds were blessed by a few free tickets that were donated to our church.

Firbank Concert

A Firbank concert last week was a success, our own servers Betty and Alice made St Andrew’s proud with their commitment and dedication to their studies and their passion for music.
